- 4 slices bacon, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup (60 mL) bread crumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp (15 mL) Worcestershire sauce
- 4 tsp (20 mL) steak spice
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup (60 mL) barbecue sauce
- 4 burger buns, split
- 1/4 cup (60 mL) mayonnaise
- 4 tsp (20 mL) ketchup
- 4 tsp (20 mL) Dijon mustard
- 1 gherkin, finely chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1/4 tsp (1 mL) smoked paprika
- 4 leaves of lettuce
- 1 ripe avocado, halved, pitted and sliced
- 4 thick slices tomato
- 4 slices onion rounds
- 16 slices bread-and-butter pickles
Directions
- Mix together ground beef, bacon, bread crumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, steak spice and garlic. Divide into 8 portions and shape into 1/2-inch (1 cm) thick patties. Sandwich cheese slice between 2 patties and pinch to enclose cheese and seal edges.
- Preheat grill to medium-high; grease grate well. Grill burgers for 8 to 10 minutes or until meat is cooked through and internal temperature on instant-read thermometer reaches 160°F (71°C). Brush with barbecue sauce; top with cheese slice. Grill for 1 to 2 minutes or until cheese melts. Meanwhile, grill buns for about 1 minute or until lightly toasted.
- Stir together mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, chopped gherkins, garlic and smoked paprika; spread over buns. Assemble burgers in buns with lettuce, avocado, tomato, onion and pickles.
